AI Safety, Explained With an Omelette

19 September 2026

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently compared the AI safety debate with the preparation of an omelette. And the comparison really amused me.

He says the rule for shipping AI is the same rule as shipping an omelette:

“And in doing so, if it’s not ready, just hold it back. You should go as fast as you can, but no faster than that.”

He went on:

“At the moment, the incidents are related to products not ready to be released. This is no different than, you know, an omelet’s not ready to be released, or a car’s not ready to be released, an airplane engine not ready to be released. You should properly test it, you have rigorous testing systems.”

For all the sophisticated language around AI safety, alignment, evals, containment, red teaming, there is something refreshingly simple about that analogy.

Cook it. Test it. Then serve it.

Turns out, even frontier AI can learn a thing or two from good old-fashioned engineering.
